Gerber Institute will present Timothy Kirk, assistant professor of philosophy at the City University of New York-York College in New York, NY, USA, where he specializes in philosophy of nursing and healthcare ethics with an emphasis on hospice and palliative care. In addition to his appointment at CUNY, he serves as chair of the hospice and palliative care affinity group of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities, on the executive board of the International Philosophy of Nursing Society, and as vice chair of the ethics committee of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.
Kirk will be on the Newman campus November 11th for presentations to nursing students, pre-med and science students. He will also be addressing the Traditions and Transitions students, faculty and facilitators. At 7:00pm he will present his public lecture, Palliative Care for Serious Illness: Supporting the Reconciliation of a Fractured Self. The 7:00pm session is free and open to the public.
